A 1908 house on the National Register
A notable older house in the city is on the National Register of Historic Places. The City of North Liberty says the Samuel and Emma A. Ranshaw House was built in 1908 as a local showplace, with custom woodwork, ornamental glass, hot and cold plumbing and gas lighting. The Ranshaws were successful farmers in what was once a small farming town, and the home, designed and built by local architect and contractor BA Wickham, is listed. It was restored in 2021 and now serves as a gathering place for community programming (City of North Liberty, Ranshaw House, as of 2026).
What stands out
The Ranshaw House stands against a housing stock that is overwhelmingly recent: the median year built is 2004, about 64 percent of homes date from 2000 or later, and only about 2 percent, roughly 142 homes, were built in 1939 or earlier. Between 1940 and 1979 fall about 12 percent. The city has an estimated 8,739 housing units, the fifth-largest stock of the eleven towns.
