About This Site
This site is a quote-request service for homeowners in the Cedar Rapids area looking into hardwood floor refinishing or one of the related jobs on all services: floor sanding, restoration and repair, staining and color change, and screen and recoat. It explains the work in plain terms, with a source and a year for each figure it states, and gives two ways to ask for a quote.
How a quote request works
A request can be made by calling 914-530-6133, or by using the form on the request a quote page. The form asks for a name, a phone number, and the address or town of the floor; email and timing are optional, and a reason for the inquiry can be picked from a list or left as it is. What's submitted is used to prepare a quote for the work described.
Areas covered
This site covers eleven towns in two Iowa counties: six in Linn County and five in Johnson County. The service areas page lists them, with what public sources say about each town's homes.
Iowa's general rules for hiring someone for this kind of work
Two Iowa rules can matter when hiring someone for renovation work, stated here as they read as of September 2026, in general terms, with their sources. Neither is specific to hardwood floor refinishing, and this site makes no claim about whether either rule applies to any particular job. Iowa Code chapter 91C requires a contractor who earns $2,000 or more a year from construction work to register with the Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing (DIAL) (Iowa Code 91C.1, 91C.2). Registration is not a professional license. Registration numbers are public records, and DIAL's own contractor page links to a public search tool where a business name or registration number can be looked up.
Iowa also runs its own EPA-authorized program for renovation that disturbs painted surfaces in homes built before 1978, administered by DIAL rather than the EPA directly (EPA, Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting Program). Iowa Code requires anyone doing that kind of renovation for compensation to complete training and hold certification, with a civil penalty of up to $5,000 per offense for doing it without one; a homeowner working on their own home is exempt unless someone outside their immediate family lives there during the work (Iowa Code 10A.902). Iowa's rule sets a minor-repair threshold below which the certification requirement does not apply; for an interior painted or finished wood surface, that threshold is under 1.0 square foot per renovation (481 IAC 470.2). None of the sources read for this site say whether sanding or refinishing a clear-finished or stained hardwood floor falls under this rule, and this site makes no claim either way.
These rules are stated as of September 2026, from the sources linked above. They are not legal advice, and a homeowner planning renovation work should confirm current requirements directly with DIAL.
What this page does not say
This page does not say that any business connected with this site is registered, licensed, certified or insured, or how long anyone has been doing this kind of work. It does not say what a quote will cost, or that any particular person will respond to a request. It states only what the sources above say, and how to ask for a quote.
