Hardwood Floor Refinishing Service Areas

An aerial view of a small town's streets and homes

This site covers eleven towns in two Iowa counties, six in Linn County and five in Johnson County. Each town has a page with what public sources say about its homes: Census Bureau housing figures for every town, and a local fact from the town's own website (or, for Mount Vernon, its historic preservation commission's site) where one could be found. A quote request only needs the address or town of the floor.

The eleven towns compared

The table sets the Census figures side by side. Population is the Census Bureau's April 2020 estimates base. The other columns come from the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 American Community Survey 5-year estimates, which are sample-based estimates and not counts: the smaller the town, the wider the margin, as the median-year margins show. Owner-occupied and renter-occupied are shares of occupied homes.

What the figures do and do not say

The tables describe housing and households. They say when homes were built, how many are owned or rented, and how recently households moved in. They do not say what a floor is made of or what condition it is in, and no table here should be read as saying that any town has more or fewer hardwood floors than another. A floor's own thickness, finish and condition decide what work it needs, and the hardwood floor refinishing page explains how.
